The total population of Kerala stood at 31,838,619 as per the provisional results of the Census of India 2001. All India decadal growth rate of population during 1991-2001 is 21.34%. The State with an average of 90.92 per cent literacy, against the national average of 65.38, is on the top among all the States and Union territories.
